Divinity: Original Sin 2 is renowned for its intricate quests and challenging environmental puzzles. One standout side quest in Chapter 4 is A Trial for All Seasons, located east of the Driftwood Fields. Players must solve an elemental riddle involving four ancient statues before surviving a formidable battle.

Locating the Shrine and Interacting with the Tongue of Flame

To begin the quest, travel to the elven structure situated in the woods east of Driftwood. In the center of four seasonal statues, you will find a ceremonial brazier known as The Tongue of Flame. Interacting with the brazier initiates the trial and presents a cryptic riddle related to Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.

Solving the Elemental Riddle for Each Season

Passing the trial requires creating specific elemental surface or cloud conditions near each corresponding statue. For the Hero of Winter, cast an ice spell like Hail Strike or Ice Fan on the ground. The Hero of Spring requires blood, which can be created using Raining Blood or the Flesh Sacrifice ability.

The remaining two statues demand specific elemental combinations to activate properly. For the Hero of Summer, casting a high-intensity fire spell such as Laser Ray or setting a fire cloud will work. For the Hero of Autumn, create a cloud of vaporized water and shock it with an electric spell to form a static cloud.

Defeating the Elemental Challengers in Combat

Once all four statues are lit, four powerful elven challengers materialize around the altar. Each challenger represents a specific season and possesses complete immunity to their corresponding element. Pre-positioning your party members on higher ground before triggering the final statue offers a significant tactical advantage.

Focus on crowd control and physical damage to eliminate the foes efficiently. Be cautious of high damage output from the enemies during the opening turn. After defeating the guardians, you complete the quest and earn valuable loot, including the unique Phoenix Heart item.
